No Dust Refinishing Case Study

WornWoodMagic no dust refinishing case study:
This is a kitchen and breakfast room, refinished with the WornWoodMagic system.

The family living in the home had put off having their floors refinished because they definitely didn’t want sanding, having been through all the dust and hassle of that before.

Plus, the kitchen’s wood floor runs directly into the den, so if the kitchen had been sanded it would have ended up being a slightly lower level than the adjoining room!

We came in and demonstrated what could be done with the floor with the WornWoodMagic system – the test patch is in the first picture.

Here’s a “before” with the test patch still there
– it’s a diamond shape to the right

The major challenge was dealing with large wear areas – to strip them out and restain them and make them blend in as much as possible.

This is a picture of the kitchen area – half of it stripped, half not stripped
no sand refinishing half stripped

As you can see, the stripping process removes a lot of stuff!

The worst area in the kitchen was in front of the sink
– this is a before picture

Here’s the same area, dirt stripped out, still wet:

When it is dry, it really shows the wear:

There also were some special problems to fix
– one that wasn’t expected was old loose polyurethane around some of the edges:

And as we already knew, there were some water spots to be scraped out:

The light areas in the picture have just been scraped by hand

When a floor becomes so worn that it has bare patches where it is down to raw wood, it is impossible for the homeowner to clean by normal means
– the grain is completely open and becomes a sponge – here you can see some of the dirt being lifted in the stripping process.

Here’s the same area stripped clean, but it is wet – so all the wear areas are showing as dark:

How’s THAT for a Difference!!
And guess what – this was all done in one day with our no dust refinishing – they were using the kitchen that evening!
